He enlisted as a Musician in Company K, First New Jersey Infantry on 21 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He died of consumption (pneumonia) at the Court House hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 7 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown, but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
