Age 25, he enlisted at Seneca Falls on 18 May 1861 in Company K, 33rd New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland but died, probably of disease, at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 9 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
