He enlisted 30 September 1861 as Private, Company K, 2nd New Jersey Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland but he died of typhoid fever at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 14 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown, but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
