A 19 year old hostler from Dedham, MA, he enlisted 15 June 1861 and mustered as Private, Company G, 7th Massachusetts Infantry. He was listed as a deserter on 2 July 1861. He again enlisted, 5 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company I, 35th Massachusetts Infantry on 16 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
