Before Antietam
A 21 year old sailor from Gloucester, he enlisted in Company F, 19th Massachusetts Infantry on 6 August 1861. He was appointed Corporal, date not given. He was reported missing in action having been captured at Glendale, VA on 30 June 1862, and was back with his Company on 6 August.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the left leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at the Showman House, near Sharpsburg, then at a hospital in Frederick, MD. He was discharged for wounds on 10 June 1863.
