Before Antietam

A 19 year old hostler in Lowell, he enlisted in Company D, 6th Massachusetts Infantry for 3 months on 16 April 1861 and mustered out on 2 August. He enlsited again, on 19 August 1861, in Company G, 19th Massachusetts Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to Company D, 16th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps 14 December 1863. He reenlisted on 13 June 1864 and was discharged 25 November 1865.
