A 28 year old laborer in Boston, he enlisted on 26 July 1861 in Company I, 19th Massachusetts Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the hand in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was hospitalized to 23 March 1863, then sent to camp at Harrisburg, PA for duty. He failed to report and was considered a deserter from that date.
