Age 24, he enlisted at New York City to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company B, 69th New York Infantry on 26 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the lungs in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent to a hospital in Frederick, MD, and died of wounds there on 7 October 1862.
