Age 30, he enlisted in New York City to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company K, 69th New York Infantry on 19 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was transferred to Company A, promoted to Corporal, and back to Private, dates not given. He transferred to Company F in January or February 1864. He was captured on picket 29 October 1864 near Petersburg, VA and returned to his Company 19 May 1865. He mustered out with a detachment on 5 June 1865 near Alexandria, VA.
