He enlisted at Camp Clark in Guadalupe County as a Private in Company A, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 8 October 1862 and was 2nd Sergeant when he was captured, probably at Suffolk, VA, on 4 May 1863. He was exchanged at Fortress Monroe, VA on 13 May, returned to duty, and was appointed First Sergeant of his Company on 10 June 1863. He was mortally wounded in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and died on the 15th.
