Age 22, he enlisted in New York City to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company B, 69th New York Infantry on 24 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the right leg, his tibia fractured, in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a hospital in Frederick, MD, and was discharged for disability on 18 August 1863 at Point Lookout, MD.
