Age 22, he enlisted in New York City to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company A, 69th New York Infantry on 24 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He transferred to Company B on 12 June 1863 and to Company A, 13th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 1 July 1863.
