Before Sharpsburg

Raised on a farm in Albemarle County, VA, by 1860 he was working on his brother-in-law and sister Elizabeth's farm in Hays County, TX. He enlisted at Camp Clark, Guadalupe County as a Private in Company A, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 July 1861 and was appointed 3rd Sergeant on 29 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was thought disabled, but returned to duty and was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 27 December 1862. He was promoted to (Senior) 2nd Lieutenant on 9 May 1863 but was killed at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863.
