A 32 year old physician, he enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant, Company D, 7th North Carolina on 16 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded, shot through the lungs, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September, 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Winchester, VA on 22 September 1862.
