Before Sharpsburg

A 40 year old farmer from Cabarrus County, he mustered as Captain, Company B, 7th North Carolina Infantry on 16 May 1861. He was appointed Major on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured at Frederick, MD on 15 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware, DE by 20 September, transferred to Aiken's Landing, VA 2 October, and exchanged there on 10 November 1862. He resigned his commission due to ill health on 6 July 1863. He was killed in action at Petersburg, VA on 18 July 1864 will serving as a volunteer on the staff of General Robert F. Hoke.
