Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 27 year old farmer on his parent's place at Snow Creek near Statesville in Iredell County, NC. He was conscripted and enlisted at Statesville, NC as a Private in Company D, 7th North Carolina Infantry on 3 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in his back in action at Harpers Ferry, VA on 13 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to CS General Hospital #18 in Richmond, VA on 28 September and furloughed home on 18 October 1862. He died at home in Statesville of his wounds. His father John L. filed for his final pay on 8 September 1863.
