He mustered as Private, Company D, 13th Mississippi Infantry on about 1 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot to the left knee in action and captured at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. He lost a lot of blood before the surgeons got to him.

The rest of the War

His leg was amputated at the lower third of his thigh by a Federal surgeon on 18 September, but he died of pyemia (blood poisoning/infection) on 21 September 1862, age 25, at a field hospital on or near near the battlefield.
