A 28 year old machinist in Greencastle, he mustered as First Sergeant, Company A, 27th Indiana Infantry on 12 September 1861, and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 7 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
