Before Antietam
A 25 year old artist from Fillmore, he mustered as Private, Company A, 27th Indiana Infantry on 12 September 1861. He was promoted to Corporal, date not given, and reduced to Private at his own request on 21 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the hand in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was discharged for wounds on 31 October 1862 in Washington, DC.
