A 26 year old farmer from Manhattan, IN, he enlisted as Private, Company A, 27th Indiana Infantry 12 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by gunshot in the left lung in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a hospital in Frederick, MD from 29 September to 9 November 1862, then sent on to one in Philadelphia, PA. He was discharged for wounds on 29 January 1863.
