Before Antietam
From Martin County, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company C, 14th Indiana Infantry and was discharged 4 October 1861. He then mustered as Private, Company B, 27th Indiana Infantry on 15 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He transferred to Company C, 70th Indiana Infantry in Atlanta, GA on 4 November 1864 and mustered out of service on 8 June 1865 in Washington, DC.
