A 23 year old butcher from New Bedford, he mustered as Private, Company D, 20th Massachusetts Infantry on 18 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot which fractured his eg in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863, and died on 9 July.
