Age 25, from Morgantown, he was commissioned 30 August as Captain, Company G, 27th Indiana Infantry, and mustered on 12 September 1861.
On the Campaign
He was in command of Company G on the Campaign.
The rest of the War
He was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the Regiment on 12 January 1863 and was wounded in action at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. He mustered out on 4 November 1864 in Indianapolis.
