From Owen County, he mustered as Private in Company H, 14th Indiana Infantry on 7 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in the arm and chest in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated at a field hospital, probably the Division hospital on the Dr. Otho J. Smith farm or at the Smoketown hospital, but died of wounds on 4 October 1862.
