He mustered as Private, Company B, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 15 July 1861 in Waynesboro.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the hip in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was again wounded, in action at Sommerville Ford, VA in June 1864 and at Cedar Creek, VA on 19 October 1864. He returned to duty in December 1864. He was surrendered, and paroled at Manchester, VA on 5 May 1865.
