Before Sharpsburg

A 19 year old farmhand in Augusta County, he mustered as 3rd Sergeant, Company B, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 15 July 1861 in Waynesboro.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the hip in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent on leave to at least February 1863, but back on duty, detached arresting deserters in May 1863. He was listed as in command of his Company by September 1863. He was mortally wounded in the stomach in action at Winchester, VA on 19 September 1864 and died of wounds the next day.
