Before Sharpsburg

A 21 year old farmhand in Augusta County, he mustered as Sergeant, Company B, 25th Virginia Infantry in Staunton on 27 May 1861. He transferred to Company B, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 1 May 1862. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 15 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed First Lieutenant on 2 October 1862, but was killed in action at the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864.
