He enlisted in Austin as a Private in Company B, 4th Texas Infantry on 15 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but not at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

In May 1863 he was on detached service near Rapidan Station, VA but was soon after back with his Company. He was slightly wounded in the left thigh on 7 March 1864, place not given.
