A 23 year old mechanic in Rockbridge County, he mustered as Private, Company E, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 1 August 1861. He was wounded in action at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the foot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty in February 1863, and was wounded again (place not given) on 12 December 1863 and treated at hospitals in Charlottesville and Lynchburg, VA. No military record after July 1864.
