Before Sharpsburg
He mustered as Private, Company B, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 15 July 1861 in Waynesboro. He was absent without leave from 18 July to 13 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
By November 1862 he was in a hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He returned to duty on 11 January 1863 but was in confinement 4 days later. He was arrested and fined 8 months pay in March 1863. He was absent, sick by 30 June 1863 with no further record and was dropped as a deserter on 21 December 1863.
