Before Sharpsburg
Age 24, he mustered as Private, Company E, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 1 August 1861 in Staunton, VA. He reenlisted on 1 May 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the neck in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He returned to duty 31 October 1862. He was wounded again, in the shoulder at Cedar Creek, VA on 19 October 1864 and was back with his Company by the end of that year. He was surrendered 9 April 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.
After the War
He lived in Rockbridge County, VA and was a farmer, carpenter, and canal engineer.
