He enlisted in Austin as a Private in Company B, 4th Texas Infantry on 4 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was appointed 3rd Corporal on 1 March 1864 and was severely wounded in the left thigh, the bone broken, in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864. He was captured in a Richmond, VA hospital on 3 April 1865 and took an oath of allegiance on 21 June.
