Before Sharpsburg
A 28 year old farmer in Rockbridge County, he mustered as Private, Company E, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 1 August 1861 in Staunton. He was sick in a hospital in Charlottesville, VA 11-22 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the head and arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He returned to duty in February 1863. He was listed as a deserter on 5 May 1864 on the march to the Wilderness, VA.
After the War
He was a farmer in Rockbridge County.
