Before Sharpsburg
A 19 year old Staunton resident, he mustered as Private, Company I, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 16 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the side and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was exchanged on 24 September and returned to duty on 15 February 1863. He was wounded in the jaw in action at Spotsylvania Court House, VA and was back with his Company in December 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Staunton on 17 May 1865.
