Before Sharpsburg

A 30 year old clerk in Augusta County, he mustered as 2nd Sergeant, Company B, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 15 July 1861 in Waynesboro, VA. He reenlisted on 1 May but was reduced in rank to Private on 15 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to duty in April 1863 and was detailed on hospital duty in June. He rejoined his Company in January 1864 but was discharged for disability at camp at Sommerville Ford, VA on 29 February 1864.

After the War

He was a farmer in Albemarle County, VA.
