Before Sharpsburg

A 19 year old student in Augusta County, he mustered as Private, Company F, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 24 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the leg and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was exchenged on 17 October and in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 24 October. He returned to duty in February 1863. He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

He lived in Staunton, VA.
