Before Sharpsburg
A 39 year old carpenter in Augusta County, he mustered as Private, Company B, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 29 July 1861. He was detailed as a wagoner to Augusta County from September 1861 to February 1862, an was then listed as absent without leave until he joined his Company on 12 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the ankle in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His leg was amputated soon after the battle and there is no further record until his request for an artificial limb in November 1864 in Staunton.
After the War
He continued in his trade as a carpenter in Augusta County.
