An Augusta County resident, he mustered as 4th Sergeant, Company F, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 1 May 1862 in Valley Mills, VA.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the face in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, in the face, on 12 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA. He returned to his Company by the end of December 1864, but deserted to the enemy in West Virginia in March 1865 and took the oath of allegiance there.
After the War
He was a farmer in Augusta County.
