He mustered as Private, Company K, 52nd Virginia Infantry on 9 April 1862 at Shenandoah Mountain, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the face in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his unit in December 1863. He deserted to the enemy at Clarksburg, WV on 8 April 1865 and took the oath of allegiance there.

After the War

He was a tenant on the Reynold's family farm (Reynoldsville, WV) for 52 years - the rest of his life - and had 9 children there with his wife Sarah Kathern Anderson (1833-1913).
