From Caroline County, he mustered as Sergeant, Company G, 30th Virginia Infantry on 21 May 1861. He was ill in Fredericksburg in August 1861, and listed as absent without leave at Christmas 1861. He was reduced to Private on 31 December 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
