Before Antietam

He was appointed Colonel of the 2nd Regiment of Sharpshooters on its organization early in 1862.

On the Campaign

In command of the 2nd US Sharpshooters, part of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Division, I Corps. The Brigade advanced through the Cornfield early on the 17th in close support of Brigadier General Gibbon's 4th 'Black Hat' Brigade. Colonel Post was wounded in action there and went to the rear.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission and was discharged 18 November 1862.

After the War

He founded his own firm in railroad banking in New York after the War.
