Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old farm worker on his recently widowed mother's place near Occoquan in Prince William County, VA. He enlisted as a Private in Company F (later A) of the 49th Virginia Infantry in Prince William County on 1 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
