Before Sharpsburg
From Washington County, he mustered as Private, Company F, 37th Virginia Infantry on 25 April 1861 in Glade Spring, VA. He was promoted 4th Sergeant in January 1862, to First Sergeant 15 April, and commissioned 3rd Lieutenant on 3 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded, shot through the body, and left on the field in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. He died the same day.
