From the City of Hampton, he mustered as Private, Company E, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 14 May 1861 in Hampton. He was wounded in action at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862 and was promoted to 4th Corporal on 15 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
