A 22 year old farmer in Meadowland, he mustered as Private (or Sergeant), Company F, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861 in Williamsburg. He was elected Captain in May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.
