Before Sharpsburg

He mustered as Private, Company C, 23rd Virginia Infantry in Winterham, VA on 15 March 1861. He reenlisted on 13 February 1862 and received a 30-day furlough. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on 21 April and 2nd Sergeant on 1 July 1862. He was hospitalized in Winchester, VA on 1 August but returned to duty on 19 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
