A 22 year old locksmith in Richmond, he mustered as Private, Company H, 23rd Virginia Infantry in Richmond on 14 May 1861. He reenlisted on 13 February 1862 and received a 30-day furlough.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
