He mustered as Sergeant, King William Light Artillery at Bond's Store, VA on 1 June 1861. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 15 April and First Lieutenant on 28 April 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action "while sighting his gun" at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
