Before Sharpsburg
He mustered as Private, Company C, 42nd Virginia Infantry on 18 May 1861 in Lisbon, VA. He was appointed Commissary Sergeant of the Regiment on 19 July, but resigned and was again a Private as of 12 November 1861. He was appointed Commissary Sergeant again on 7 August 1862 and returned to Company C as First Sergeant on the day of battle at Sharpsburg, 17 September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
