A 20 year old farmer, he mustered as Sergeant, Company H, 41st Virginia Infantry on 19 June 1861 at Boykins Depot, Southampton County, VA and he reenlisted on 15 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Henrico County, VA on 20 May 1863.
